DAY 1 ADELAIDE TO FLINDERS RANGES.
From Adelaide, your adventure takes you to north to the Clare Valley, a region famed for exceptional wines. En-route, you travel through historic towns with quaint cottages and historic buildings. You have an opportunity to visit one of the unique wineries in Clare, before proceeding to the Flinders Range. As you draw near to the region, the legendary lilac haze of the Flinders Ranges looms before you. This is the habitat of Australia’s famous wildlife. Kangaroos and emus live here in abundance, also many species of unique birdlife and reptiles. The Wilpena Pound Resort, at the base of the famous ‘Wilpena Pound’, is your base for tonight. (L)
DAY 2 FLINDERS RANGES TO ADELAIDE
Your experienced guide will take you to view some of the region’s most unforgettable scenery. The ranges are home to a variety of native animals and birds and you will see some of country’s best-known animals, amongst the gum trees and on the steep, ragged slopes of the gorges. You continue through Bunyeroo and Brachina Gorges to the western side of the range, an area once an ancient seabed that carries some of the most important early fossils. Here you can marvel at 600 million year old fossils, a time span that is defies belief. As you head home, you visit historic towns that hark back to the pioneering days. Along the Coastal Road, you pass by old ports and seaside towns that were instrumental in the development of this region. As you approach Adelaide, the countryside slowly changes, but the memory of the majesty and beauty that is the Flinders Ranges, will remain with you. (B, L)
