Details
Day 1
Melbourne to Yarra Valley (62km or Marysville 98km)
Once you’ve collected your vehicle you will leave Melbourne via the eastern suburbs to one of the world’s great wine growing regions - the Yarra Valley. Take your pick from the gorgeous wineries offering cellar door tastings and sumptuous restaurants offering gourmet cuisine that beautifully pair with your wine of choice. Before an evening of sampling wine, how about heading to Healesville Sanctuary, home to an abundance of indigenous wildlife including dingos, kangaroos, wombats and platypus (own expense).
Day 2
Phillip Island (148km or from Marysville 172km)
In the morning you’ll depart Yarra Valley and travel to Sam Remo to take part in the free daily feeding of the pelicans. Afterwards, you’ll drive over the bridge to Phillip Island, a stunning coastal resort with wonderful beaches, a myriad of wildlife, and great outdoor activities. Head to Seal Rocks to discover the Fur Seal colony, and be sure to watch the brilliant Penguin Parade at sunset; where Little Penguins come back to the shore and waddle back to their homes (own expense).
Day 3
Mornington Peninsula (107km)
Today you will drive around the bay to the Mornington Peninsula, a popular destination full of sandy beaches, delightful wineries and fun outdoor excursions. Start by heading to Sorrento and Portsea, two townships with charming antique shops, galleries and cafes, before venturing inland to visit boutique wineries and dine in vineyard restaurants. The afternoon is then at your leisure – we’d recommend Flinders on the eastern side of the peninsula for a tranquil walk, and Cape Schanck on the southernmost point for gorgeous wildlife encounters.
Day 4
Melbourne (75km)
Travel north to Melbourne, passing the city’s beachside suburbs.
Your car is booked until the following day. You must return the car at the city or airport by the same time it was picked up on day one, or you’ll be given an additional charge.
